Manzoni’s Promessi Sposi – Milaan
This exposition shows the life of Marianne de Leyva, better known as Gertrude from Manzoni’s masterpiece Promessi Sposi. Her history and story stands as a symbol for the conditions of the female in the modern, eighteenth century where female figures had the freedom to choose their own destination. Other important female names in this series are: Anna Bolena, Lucrezia Borgia, Pia de’ Tolomei and Isabella Orsini. Moreover the exposition shows work from eighteenth century artists like Giuseppe Molteni.
